PLLA powder

What is PLLA powder?

PLLA powder (poly-L-lactic acid powder) is a biodegradable thermoplastic aliphatic polyester derived from renewable resources such as corn starch or sugarcane. As a highly versatile biomaterial, PLLA powder offers excellent biocompatibility, mechanical strength, and controlled degradation properties, making it the material of choice for medical devices, aesthetic medicine products, and sustainable manufacturing applications.

Our pharmaceutical-grade and medical-grade PLLA powder is manufactured under strict GMP conditions with full traceability and batch documentation. We offer customizable molecular weight ranges, particle size distributions, and purity levels to meet your specific application requirements.

FAQ

Most frequent questions and answers

PLLA powder has smaller particle sizes (typically 10-200μm) ideal for 3D printing, microsphere preparation, and applications requiring high surface area. PLLA pellets (2-5mm granules) are better suited for injection molding and extrusion processes. We can supply both forms.

When stored properly in sealed aluminum foil bags under nitrogen atmosphere at room temperature (15-25°C) and low humidity (<60% RH), PLLA powder has a shelf life of 24 months. Avoid exposure to moisture and heat which can cause hydrolytic degradation.

Yes, we offer gamma-irradiated sterile PLLA powder (25-40 kGy dose) with sterility assurance level (SAL) of 10⁻⁶ for direct use in medical device manufacturing. Sterile packaging with double-bagging in cleanroom environment is available.

Standard MOQ is 25kg for regular grades. For custom specifications or R&D quantities, we can accommodate orders as small as 1kg. Contact us to discuss your specific needs.

Yes, we provide comprehensive regulatory support including FDA Drug Master File (DMF) access, ISO 10993 biocompatibility data, extraction protocols, and technical documentation to support your regulatory submissions. Our regulatory team can assist with questions during your approval process.

Yes, PLLA can be blended with PDLA (poly-D-lactic acid) to form stereocomplex PLA with higher melting point, or with PGA, PCL, and other polymers to modify degradation rate and mechanical properties. We offer technical consultation for custom blends.
